Frank Donald "Don" Jarnigan

Frank Donald “Don” Jarnigan, age 86, of Chula Vista, CA passed away Monday, November 4, 2013. Mr. Jarnigan was born February 28, 1927, in the Kansas community of Jefferson County. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lillie Collier Jarnigan and father, Edd Jarnigan; brothers, Raymond, Lloyd, Tom and Oval “Dick” Jarnigan; sisters, Fannie Wall, Daisy Litz and Carol Kitts. He is survived by his sister, Dean Jarnigan Hodges of Rutledge, TN; and brother, Harold Jarnigan of Jefferson City; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Jarnigan proudly served in the United States Navy from 1946-1969, and served on the vessels, USS Bryce Canyon, USS Prairie, USS Piedmont, USS Jason, USS Sperry and ended his career on the USS Nereus in San Diego, CA. Mr. Jarnigan made his home in San Diego County after his retirement from the Navy, where he received an Associate Degree from Southwestern Community College. Don, as he was called by family and childhood friends, was a master watch-maker. His favorite pastime was buying, selling, trading and tinkering with clocks and watches. The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to his good friend and naval comrade, Mr. Isaac Greer of San Diego; CA. Mr. Greer kept a close watch over Mr. Jarnigan after his health was in decline. Also, thank you to Light Bridge Hospice and Palliative Care and special caregivers, Mellie and Reva of National City, CA for the kindness and gentle care shown to him during his convalescence and recent illness.
