FRANK JARNIGAN "JACK" MASON, age 87, of Lucedale, MS, formerly of Dandridge, TN, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008. He was born April 12, 1921, the son of the late Houk and Samantha Strange Mason. Jack was a member of the Lawson's Chapel United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Maury High School and attended Tennessee Wesleyan college on a football scholarship. He joined the U. S. Navy/Coast Guard and served in World War II. Following his service days, he went to work for Union Carbide and Martin Marietta of the Oak Ridge Atomic Energy Complex and retired from there in 1983. Preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Smelcer Mason; daughter, Karen D. Mason; grandson, Justin Ian Strange; sisters, Evaudna Cate, Ruby J. Rainwater; brothers, Forrest M. "Dutch" Mason and Perry H. Mason. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Becky and A. V. Meynier, Jr.; grandchildren, A. V. "Chip" Meynier III, Joshua Adam Strange and Gwen Speth; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sister, Edna Caton; brother, Curt Mason; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Farrar Funeral Home Dandridge Chapel with Reverend Mike Ladd officiating. Interment graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Hills Union Cemetery with Reverend Denny Ford presiding. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
