He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix Houston Carpenter and Zorah Amos Carpenter; seven brothers; five sisters; and son-in-law, Dr. James L. Chambers. Mr. Carpenter, a World War II veteran, served in the Fifth Army in North Africa and Italy. He was a beloved deacon of Point Pleasant Baptist Church in Newport and retired from American Enka after forty years. Survived by wife of 63 years, Janet Reed Carpenter of White Pine; daughter, Linda Chambers of Morristown; son, Ronald Reese Carpenter of White Pine; grandsons, Mark Timothy Rice and wife, Rita Fowler Rice, Dana Christian Rice and wife, Lenora Klemstra Rice, Ronald Scott Carpenter and wife, Frances Collins Carpenter; great grandsons, Alex Christian Rice, Timothy Christian Rice and Ethan Scott Carpenter, all of Jefferson City; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2006 at Point Pleasant Baptist Church with Reverend James Hance officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Farrar Funeral Home in White Pine.
