She was preceded in death by her brother, George Sanders. Emily taught in the Jefferson County School System for over 30 years. She was a dedicated educator, spending many years as a Title I teacher at Rush Strong School, where she touched the lives of thousands of students.
Not only was she a loving mother to her three children, but also to their friends. Her house was the gathering place where everyone was welcome and felt comfortable. Many meals, sweets, and great conversations were shared at the dinner table.
There are so many ways to describe Emily: genuine, insightful, loving, strong-willed, opinionated, strict, dedicated, compassionate, honest. A raised eyebrow spoke volumes and her laugh was infectious. She loved having her house full of family and friends- of all ages, at any time. She spent countless hours at swim meets, basketball games, and of course, watching football. She was a dedicated JCHS football fan, and she believed her beloved Vols could not play without her at Neyland Stadium. Visitation of friends and family will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Farrar Funeral Home with the service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Private graveside interment service will be Friday at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
