Broadway Blvd. Jefferson City, TN 37760 Phone (865) 475-3892 Fax (865) 475-9916 OBITUARY: ELLEN ELIZABETH (LIB) TITTSWORTH, of Jefferson City, TN completed her journey of 101 years in this life on Thursday afternoon, July 13, 2006 at St. Mary?s Residential Hospice in Knoxville. Lib was born in Shady Grove, TN in 1904 and moved to Jefferson City in 1908. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City, where she served as choir member, violinist, youth department leader, and tireless worker with the United Methodist Women. After graduating from Carson-Newman College in 1925, she taught French, History and Civics at the Jefferson City High School for 13 years. She then attended George Peabody College in Nashville, and then the University of Virginia at Richmond, after which she transferred to Scarritt College (Methodist) for Christian Workers, where she received her master?s degree. She served the Wesley Foundation on state college campuses at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC for three years and for ten years at Mississippi University College for Women in Columbus, Mississippi, then returned to Scarritt College, and spent 10 years at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. At the age of 70, she was called as a missionary to Singapore with the American Hostel for Children and the Methodist Rest Home for Missionaries. Lib then retired, took a trip around the world, and made her way back to Jefferson City. She was an active member and leader of many civic organizations, including the Women?s League of Voters, Chamber of Commerce, the ?Friends? of Jefferson City Library, and Sans Souci. Lib was honored as Jefferson City?s Senior Citizen of the Year in 1989. She enjoyed sports, gardening and reading, and was often the first person to greet new residents at Darby House, where she moved to in 1998. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. B. M. Tittsworth; brother, Mac Tittsworth; sisters, Mary Kate Tittsworth and Munsey T. Mowbray; and brothers-in-law, R. G. Mowbray and The Reverend Dr. E. E. (Ned) Wiley. Lib is survived by her beloved sister, Frances T. Wiley; cousins, Betty Ann Jones and husband, Reverend William Jones, and Katherine Dannenhold; and devoted friend, Kitty Fraker. A special thanks to Lib?s caregivers, Betty Atkins, Lisa Brockwell, Bennie Courtney, Gerry Denney, Bennie Phillips, Kathleen Reed, Beverly Smith, Shirley Whaley and Mary Yarnell. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City with Reverend Doug Wilder officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately after the service. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery.
