OBITUARY:
EDWARD MCCORMICK, age 84, of Jefferson City, TN, born July 4, 1922 in Norfolk, VA, passed away on May 29, 2007 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Agnes and Joseph Libihoul; and father, Gwinn McCormick. He graduated from Allentown High School in Pennsylvania in 1940. He then served in the U. S. Navy from 1942 until 1945 during World War II and was honorable discharged as Radioman First Class. Graduated from Mullenberg College in 1950 with B.A. degree in geology and did graduate work at the University of Missouri, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He worked for the St. Joe Land Company, American Zinc Company, Asarco Incorporated, where he was chief geologist from 1966 until 1985. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was head of the ushering committee, a former member of the Holston, Knoxville Kiwanis Club and the Jefferson City Kiwanis Club, having served as president of both. He was also a member of the Society of Mining Engineers (A.I.M.E.) (chairman 1979), the Society of Economic Geologists, and was the author of several geological papers. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2007 Jefferson Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tom Underwood and Rev. Doug Wilder officiating. Military honors will be presented by East Tennessee Veteran Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City, 2011 Branner Avenue, Jefferson City, TN 37760.
