Edith (Edie) Lakin – age 87, of Talbott, TN passed away Tuesday night, March 4, 2014. Serving many years as an elementary school teacher, Edith retired as Hamblen County Schools Media Supervisor. She attended Magna View Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Jessie Summey; sisters, Margaret Bennison and Ruth Rummrell; brothers, George and Marvin Summey. Survived by her husband, William “Bill” Lakin; sons, Philip and Daphne Lakin, and Tommy Lakin, all of Strawberry Plains, Doug and Michelle Lakin of Knoxville; grandchildren, Chandler, Colson, and Chaney Lakin. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many other family members and close friends. Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Farrar Funeral Home, Jefferson City. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff and private caregivers at Jefferson City Health and Rehab Center for their loving care of Edith over the past years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at 200 Prosperity Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee 37923.
