E. D. Allen

Dr. E. D. Allen, White Pine, TN physician and lifelong resident of Jefferson County, TN, finished his splendid race and moved to Heaven to be with his Lord on February 4, 2012. Married to Carmen Alvara Frazer on June 24, 1944, they remained together as best friends who were loving, faithful, and caring for more than 67 years of marriage. Dr. Allen graduated from White Pine High School as valedictorian. He was a member of the Navy?s V-12 Program during World War II, attending Emory University as an undergraduate and graduating from Emory University Medical School. Thereafter, as a Navy medical officer, he served with the US Marine Corps on Guam, before returning to practice medicine in his hometown of White Pine, TN. Dr. Allen practiced medicine with great love and affection for his patients and his staff at The Clinic until 1981. During his service to his community, he delivered many babies, performed countless surgeries, and executed lots of stitches, while sharing wisdom, humor, and compassion with all his patients. He even managed to squeeze in many, many house calls. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of White Pine, the American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, Lakeway Mecical Society, and the American Legion. He was a lifetime member of White Pine Lions Club and the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Dr. Allen and Alvara are proud parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. Their children include son, Claude F. Allen and wife, Kimberly E. Allen of Marysville, OH, and their children, Heather L. Hopkins (G. Carter Hopkins, USMC) of Williston, SC, and John Peter (J.P.) Mancini of Vail, CO; daughter, Rebecca (Becky) A. Cooper and husband, Lyle Cooper of Knoxville, TN, and her children, Benjamin A. Taylor (Sandra Achenbach) of Knoxville, and William Joseph Taylor (Katherine Ashworth Taylor) of Huntsville, AL, whose daughter, Mary Allen Taylor, is the Allen?s first born great-grandchild; and son, Dale C. Allen and wife, Carolyn Scott Allen of Knoxville, and their children, Dr. Brian Frazer Scott Allen (Sara P. Allen) of Portland, OR and Adam McWhorter Allen of Reston, VA. Brian and Sara are the parents of the Allen?s second great-grandchild, Dylan Alexander Scott Allen. Dr. Allen lived to see the birth of two great-grandchildren, who gave him great joy. As a fourth generation Jefferson Countian, Dr. Allen was true to his God, his family, and his community. Even in later years, as his health failed him, he remained cheerful. His friends will remember his pleasant and frequent responses of ?I?m tolerable?, and ?It?s a pleasure doing business with you.? Throughout, he tried to live a Christian life and desired to finish the race Saint Paul spoke of in a way pleasing to his Lord. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of White Pine at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012.
