DUANE UMBERGER, age 78, of Talbott, TN went to be with his Lord and Father at 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2009 at Jefferson County Nursing Home following an extended illness. He was of the Baptist faith, having been baptized in Austinville, VA. He retired from E. J. Longyear Drilling Company with 39 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U. S. Navy on the USS Bennington. Duane is preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Harvey Umberger; parents, Arthur (Speed) and Mary Pearman Umberger; brother, Carlisle Umberger; sister-in-law, Wilma Umberger; niece, Carla Umberger Smith Bliss; cousin, Patsy Lipford; best friends, Don Mullins and Edrew (Duck) Duckworth. Survived by daughter, Teresa Umberger Dietz of Talbott; grandson, Michael Duane Dietz, stationed in Florida; sister, Gayle (Kirtis) Bowlin of Morristown; nieces, Michelle and Abby Abboud of CO, Debra Parcher and Mary Ann Brooks of AZ; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Edith and Clifton Wolfe of Morristown; nephew, Denny Wolfe of Morristown; special neighbors and friends, Debbie Taylor, Barbara Lockhart, Debbie Wolfe, Phyllis Duckworth, Bobby and Faye Massengil, Bill Massengil, Bill and Nancy Turpin and Betty Burchell. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, Fenruary 16, 2009 from the Farrar Jefferson City Chapel with Rev. Leroy Davis officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Family and friends will gather at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Fenruary 17, 2009 at Farrar Funeral Home to proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service with military honors given by U. S. Navy Funeral Honors and VFW Post #5266. Duane will always be loved and truly missed.
