Farrar Funeral Home, Jefferson City

Dr. Rufus Norman Crossing, age 63, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024, at his home in Atlanta, Georgia after a long battle with chronic illness. Norman was born July 18, 1960, in Jefferson City, Tennessee to Rufus Crossing and Alma Crossing. He grew up a member of Martha Davis Baptist Church and was a graduate of Jefferson County High School. After receiving his B.S. in Chemistry from Middle Tennessee State University, he completed his education by attending Quillen College of Medicine (East Tennessee State University) and his residency at the University of Louisville. He completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency and became a board certified OB/GYN. He then joined the Southeast Permanente Medical Group (SPMG). After residency he married Dr. Yvette Crossing. This union resulted in the birth of two beautiful children whom they co-parented until his death on June 16, 2024.

Dr. Crossing was an accomplished and compassionate Medical Doctor for Kaiser Permanente from 1991 until his retirement in 2021. He worked for over 30 years in the outpatient and inpatient settings. During his tenure in obstetrics, he led thousands of deliveries and performed countless surgeries, welcoming thousands of babies into this world at both Piedmont Hospital (1991-2016) and Emory University Hospital (2016-2021). It goes without saying that Dr. Crossing has had an immeasurably positive impact on the Atlanta Community, and was always proud to have grown up in the Jefferson County Community of Tennessee.

Norman loved fishing, boating, and spending time with those he loved. In recent years, he has spent his retirement traveling the world with family. Norman was the family patriarch. He was compassionate, caring, easy-going and known for providing care for those who he loved. When his friends or family needed him, he was always there.

His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his ex-wife, Dr. Yvette Crossing, their children, Adrianna Crossing and Evan Crossing, as well as Adrianna’s partner, Devin Michelle Bunten; he is also survived by his eldest child, Jeremy Crossing. Finally, he is survived by his siblings, Russell Crossing, Robin Brown, and Randall Crossing, Randall’s life partner Tim Kirby, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and others whose lives Norman touched are invited to Murray Brothers Funeral Home (Cascade Road) for a Friends and Family Reception on June 22, 2024 from 3 to 5pm. Thereafter, his wake and funeral will take place in his hometown of Jefferson City, TN at Farrar Funeral home, located 411 W. Broadway, Blvd., Jefferson City, TN on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at Farrar Funeral Home.
