Dorothy "Dot" Ellis Orr

Dorothy “Dot” Ellis Orr, age 98, passed away peacefully at her home on January 4, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Lamar Orr; her son, William A. Orr; her parents, J.W. and Margaret Ellis; and her brother, Dr. John W. Ellis Jr.

She is survived by her son, John Ellis Orr and his wife, Vickie; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Ellis; and her grandchildren, Chris Orr (Susan), Carol Anne Scarlett (Tommy), Chad Orr (Amy), and Matthew Orr (Haley). Her great-grandchildren include Lexi, Luke, Trevor, Charlise, Savanah, Laurel, Kaylyn, Carson, and Molly Anne. Dot is also lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the devoted caregivers and her cherished bridge partners who brightened her days.

Dot was a lifelong and faithful member of First Baptist Church in Jefferson City, TN, where she dedicated her time and heart to serving her church and community. Throughout her life, she embodied a spirit of love, strength, and dedication.

She was the heart of her family—a true matriarch whose wisdom and nurturing spirit created a legacy of unity and love that will endure for generations.

In her own words, Dot wanted everyone to know about “the marvelous place that awaits them, of which, I, by now, am already a part.”

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at First Baptist Church, Jefferson City, with Dr. Bill Rosser and Dr. Major Treadway officiating. A private family burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests donations in Dot’s honor for the Agape Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, Jefferson City. Donations can be sent to Heidi Thomas, 222 Five Point Drive, Talbott, TN 37877.
