She was a life long member of the White Pine First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a faithful choir member. To all her family and friends, she was known as "The Lady in Purple." She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Beulah Surrett; brothers, Scott, Harrell, Henry and Benny Surrett; sisters, Bernice Briggs and Frances Maxey. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Rufus Manis; son and daughter-in-law, Doyle and Marilyn Manis; granddaughter and husband, Donna and Leigh Yates; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Josh Loveday; step- great-grandson, Leigh Yates, Jr.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Carolyn Surrett of White Pine and Earl and Betty Surrett of North Wales, PA; sisters-in-law, Polly Surrett, Mary Anna Chambers and Mary Ellen Surrett; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2007 at the White Pine First United Methodist Church with Reverend Mark McFadden and Reverend Mike Sledge officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2007 at White Pine Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service.
