Dorothy Jean Flynn Grogan, 89, of Morristown, Tennessee got her wings on September 21, 2022 after a brief illness.
Dorothy Jean, also known as Dot to her close friends, was born on August 18, 1933, daughter of Luther R. and Cinda Williford Flynn in the Oak Grove Community of Dandridge, Tennessee. She was proud of her Dandridge roots, and her family and friends therein.
Dorothy attended Maury High School in Dandridge, Tennessee and went on to business school in Knoxville Tennessee. She worked as an executive secretary at Millers on Gay Street before her marriage to William Austin Grogan, of Jefferson City, Tennessee. She also was a long time employee of the Citizen Tribune until her retirement from the Circulation Department working for Don Cunningham.
Dorothy resided in Morristown Tennessee in 1963 until her passing in the same home. Her entire life was devoted to her children. She raised 5 children and 1 grandson on her own. She turned a barren grassless lot into a beautiful lush yard, filled with lush trees, flowers, and shrubbery, garden, berries, and her pride and joy, her fountain. Dorothy was a phenomenal cook, and her desserts were famous. Her homemade banana pudding, brownies and chocolate pie would rival any 5 star restaurant dessert. She could cut hair with the best. She was a seamstress, a mechanic, a carpenter, a plumber and Mom all wrapped up in one tiny beautiful package. She had a big heart, and loved her neighbors Pauline and Larry and Jeff, and considered them dear friends.
Dorothy was proceeded in death by her parents Luther and Cinda Williford Flynn, Grandparents Samuel and Lou Kimbrough Williford and James A and Priscilla Catlett Flynn, and her former husband William Austin Grogan and dearest friend Gene Bivens. She is survived by one sister, Barbara Lou Flynn Jones, her five children, Susan and Greg Gass, Steven Grogan, Robert Grogan, Pam Sheppard, Sherry Butler, grandchildren Timothy Grogan, Jennifer (Jeff) Atkins, Frank Gass, Leon Butler, and William Butler and great grandchildren Chloe Atkins and Poppy Atkins as well as her niece and nephew Patti Kelly and Larry Jones.
