Doris Glee Shelley Sharp, of Jefferson City, TN, born in Burkesville, KY, was called to Heaven peacefully on her 52nd wedding anniversary, Tuesday, August 16, 2016. The battle is over, Doris is victorious, as she now walks with Jesus.
As owner of the The Hallmark Happiness Shop and Piggly Wiggly, and a business professional for over 50 years, Doris poured her heart into her community, leading to many well-deserved achievements, with many of her contributions being behind-the-scenes. She was the first woman elected as Vice President and President of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce; the first woman elected to the Board of Directors of the Appalachian Electric Co-op, serving over 20 years; and in 1994, she was the first woman ever selected as Jefferson Countian of the Year. She was a past member of FSG Bank’s Board of Directors, and as a real estate agent, served as a director on the Lakeway Area (form. Morristown) Board of Realtors, and was elected President of the Lakeway Area Board of Realtors in 2001. Doris loved First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, and served as a Deacon there, where she was an active member for over 50 years. Beyond the accolades, Doris offered first-time job employment to many teenagers, patiently teaching them the value of honest work and showing respect to all people.
Doris loved her family and her friends and exhibited not only grace and wisdom, but a wonderful sense of humor, never taking life too seriously. She loved to play Bridge, bowl, travel, gaze over Cherokee Lake, and spend time with her family. She loved her life and found joy in it daily.
Greeting her in Heaven were her parents, Robert and Julie Hardin Shelley.
Waiting patiently to meet her again is her beloved husband, Ronnie Sharp; daughters Susan Bouler (Jerry) and Valerie Dukes (Monty); grandchildren Ronda Blevins (David), Jonathan Bouler (Kelsey), Lindsay Lowery (Phillip), Laura Dukes and Shelby Dukes; great-grandchildren Alyssa Blevins, Brayden Blevins, and Blake Lowery; sister Marjorie McCoy; brothers-in-law Roger Sharp (Mary) and Kenneth Sharp (Robin) and their families; sister-in-law Donna Sharp; nephews David McCoy (Renee) and family, Doug McCoy, and Mark Sharp (Emily) and family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, August 19th at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City with Rev. Stan Elliott officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm.
Special thanks to Dr. Takahashi at M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston, TX, and Dr. Epen, Tiffany Sipe and the Tennova staff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
