Donald M. Gillespie

Donald M. Gillespie, Jr., age 74 of Sevierville, TN, formerly of Coeburn, VA, passed away on January 5, 2025. A 1972 graduate of Carson-Newman College, he retired from Carter Machinery in Abingdon, VA, and later worked as a rural mail carrier. Don was an active member of the Sevier County Republican Party and attended several presidential inaugurations, including that of Ronald Reagan. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gatlinburg, where he taught Sunday School for several years. He enjoyed traveling, spending time in Florida, NASCAR, and music, and was the drummer for the band Tydes of Tyme. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and kind demeanor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Fay Bond Gillespie, and his first wife, Elizabeth Cason Gillespie. He is survived by his wife, Julie Gillespie, and a host of friends and special cousins, Rita Porter and Mary Alice Clay. A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Farrar Funeral Home with Rev. Darrell Chambers officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Private inurnment to be held at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital.
