Donald Edward Finchum

DONALD EDWARD FINCHUM, 93, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 17, 2022.  Don was born in 1928 in Strawberry Plains, TN and lived his entire life in the Beaver Creek community.  He had been a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church since 1930, serving faithfully as a deacon and trustee.  Don is preceded in death by his son, Lynn Finchum; parents, A. L. and Grace Witt Finchum; sister, Trula Mae and brother-in-law, Roy Bolinger (Pembroke, KY); brothers-in-law, Keith Mae, Joe Evans, Bill Hodges, W. T. French and Teazer and Mary Ann French.  He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis French Finchum; daughter, Patti Black; son-in-law, David Black; and granddaughter, Sara Grace Black of Brentwood, TN.  He is also survived by sisters, Jean Mee of Knoxville, Ella Bea Hodges of Strawberry Plains; and sister-in-law, Betty French of Orange Park, FL. Don was retired from the U. S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier in Strawberry Plains.  He was an active commercial beef cattle farmer as well as many organizations to include:  Jefferson County Farm Bureau, serving on the Board of Directors, president of the Jefferson County Livestock Association, Jefferson County Soil Conservation, and board of directors for Jefferson County Farmers Co-Op. In addition, he served on the Executive Board and Trustee of the Jefferson County Baptist Association.  The body will lie in state at Farrar Funeral Home on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m.  Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Beaver Creek Baptist Church.  Graveside service will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Beaver Creek Baptist Church or Walters State Lynn Finchum Memorial Scholarship Fund. Due to Covid, Farrar Funeral Home strongly suggests that all CDC guidelines be followed, including wearing masks.
