DOLAS IMOJEAN COLLIER HORNER, age 93, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024. She was born on February 21, 1930. Imojean attended elementary school at Kansas Elementary school and was a 1948 graduate of Maury High School. She was a loving, caring individual who always tried to help and take care of others. She began taking care of others at an early age, taking care of her Aunt Daisy Tate, her mother until she passed and then later her husband faithfully for 13 years when he became bedridden. She was the true example of putting others first. She was a longtime member of Mansfield Gap Missionary Baptist Church – walking to church with her grandmother as soon as she was big enough to walk the distance. She became a member of the church in 1946, becoming the oldest member of the church where she once said she had done everything at the church, except preach. She loved working with young people and taught the young people’s Sunday School class for many years and later she taught the adult class for several years. She also established the first Women’s Missionary Union at the church. She attended every service and helped anywhere she could – Sunday School, Bible School, Training Union, and helping to direct several special programs and Christmas programs at the church. She was a mentor and aid to many of the young people she came in contact with. She was always ready to see the good in everyone and wanted them to see it too. She had a love for people and a love for God. She attended Mansfield Gap as long as her health allowed it. She was preceded in death by her father, William Howard Collier in 1957; her mother, Lottie Mae Collier in 1992; her husband, Edward DeWitt Horner in 2009; her brother, Bill
Collier in 2016; her sister, Ruby (Gene) Bettis in 2020; her nephew, Doug Stills, Jr. in 2021; and her grandson, Joseph Edward (Joe) Horner in 2022. She is survived by the family she loved unconditionally (who affectionally called her “Nene”), her daughters and their families, Kathi Cope (Larry) of Morristown, Beverly Lichlyter (Glenn), and Pam Justis (Duane) of Jefferson City; grandchildren, Jessica Albright (Davy) of Morristown, Brittney Ballinger (Brandon) of New Market, Dillon Lichlyter and Dennie Justis of Jefferson City; great-grandchildren, Dayne Albright, Bryley and Brooklenn Lichlyter, Blakely Justis and Beau Ballinger; sister-in-law, Rosa Kinder (Robert) of Jefferson City, Edna Bennet (Stuart) of Georgia; brothers-in-law, Ray Horner of Morristown, and Haskell Horner (Mary) of Louisville, KY; and special cousin, Sherrill Hill; along with several friends, family, nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their thanks to special caregiver, Edna Nash of Jefferson City, who took excellent care of Imojean and our family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mansfield Gap Missionary Baptist Church, 1439 Talbott Kansas Road, Talbott, TN 37877 in memory of Imojean. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Farrar Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. William Bradley and Rev. Bill Collett officiating. Family and friends will gather at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon at the Farrar Funeral Home to proceed to Jefferson Memorial gardens for a 2:00 p.m. graveside service.
