OBITUARY:
DENE J. QUARLES "PAPPAW", age 81, of Jefferson City, TN, died Sunday, August 12, 2007 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center following a brief illness. Dene was well cared for by loving and compassionate health professionals during his hospital stay. Nothing brought him more joy than being with his family and friends. Dene was an avid horseman, grew bountiful gardens, and enjoyed coffee with his friends at McDonald's. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. A member of George Street United Methodist church, Dene was a WWII Navy veteran and served in the Pacific Campaign. He retired from U.S.S. Zinc Mines after 33 years of service and was a former member of the Smokey Mountain Trail Riders Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brown and Nancy Line Quarles, and nephew, Howard Wayne Quarles. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia Hudson Quarles; daughters and their spouses, Jenny and Perry Hustad, Mary Ellen and Dewayne Darby; grandchildren and spouses, Phillip Hustad and Alicia Barron, Laura and Bryan Purdom, Jon and Amanda Hustad, Julia and Andy Lowe, and Will Darby; and great-grandchildren, Nate Hustad and Lilly Kate Purdom. He is also survived by brothers, Laverne and wife, Polly, Gene and wife, Carolyn, Royce and wife, Nancy, Fred and wife, Bobbie; and sister, Joyce Morgan and husband, Raymond; sisters-in-law, Betty Kinnick and husband, Bill, and Dorothy Walker; and several nieces and nephews. Dene was a native of Jefferson County and had many dear and caring friends. A celebration-of-life service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2007 from the Farrar Jefferson City Chapel with Reverend Ginger Isom and Reverend Steve Burkhart officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at Farrar Funeral Home to proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to George Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 615, Jefferson City, TN 37760.
