Della Mae Lewis Welton

DELLA MAE LEWIS WELTON, age 84, of Clinton, TN passed away Friday afternoon, April 20, 2007 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice, where angels watched over her. Della was born October 6, 1922 in Dandridge, TN. She attended school in Knoxville, then moved to Oak Ridge, TN to work,where she retired from ORNL Y-12 with many years of devoted service. Della was truly a family person. Growing up, she sewed for her brothers and sisters, which was a chore, she had eight siblings. She once told one sister, "you are not made right." After leaving home, she always visited her parents home on weekends and took her mother to shop and visit relatives in surrounding counties. This too was a large task and she usually had her young niece tagging along with her. She made her dad cakes and was always doing something for someone. She was known to her nieces and nephews as "Mae-Mae." She was truly a self-less, wonderful lady. She has now joined her parents, Eugene and Lucille Henson Lewis; husband, Kenneth R. Welton; and brothers, Preston and Earl B. Lewis; brother-in-law, Hubert Goforth and special niece, Gail, in Heaven. She is survived by her devoted sisters, Dorothy Lewis Woods, Josephine Lewis Goforth and Phyllis Lewis; loving brothers and wives, Elmer and Louise Lewis, Winfred Lewis and Jane, and Alan and Patricia Lewis; great aunt, Opal Henson and a multitude of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2007 at the Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Dr. Robert McCray and Dr. Don Garner officiating. Interment graveside services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
