David Eugene (Gene) Widener

David Eugene (Gene) Widener, of New Market, passed away on January 27, 2018. David was born on July 3rd, 1933. He is preceded in death by his parents Lynn and Addie (Kooch) Widener, son Daryl Widener, grandson Tony Widener, grandparents Wallace and Cassie (Wright) Widener and Fred and Alice (Snyder) Kooch, brother in laws James McGhee and Beacher Hale, and sister in law Tammy Hale. He is survived by his loving wife, Marie (Hale) Widener, children Doug and Michelle (Beard) Widener of Oklahoma, Danny and Rachel (Williams) Widener of New Market, Donna Ray and Jerry Showman of Newport, Winnia and Brian Hetherington of Sevierville, Lt. Col. Chad and Christina Layman of Germany, Adria (Layman) and Denver Cantwell of Knoxville, sister Esther Mae McGhee of New Market, brother in law Rankin (Jake) and Karen Hale of Parrotsville, sister in laws Lodema Hale Wilburn, Faye Hale Haney, Edith (Poke) Hale Fine, Kathy (Hale) and Mike Self, all of Newport, Dona (Cricket) Hale Russell of New Market, Dorothy (Hale) and Dwight Wilson of Bean Station, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Farrar Funeral Home with Rev. Don Price officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
