David Allen Collins of Newnan, Georgia, was called to his eternal home in Heaven on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at age 57, after a 10 month battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
A 1981 graduate of Jefferson County High School, David grew up in Jefferson City, Tennessee. After attending some college classes, he discovered a passion and gift for hairstyling and worked as a stylist for 10 years, where many clients became lifelong friends.
In 1998, David decided to follow his sister and pursue his dream of becoming a flight attendant. With the same servant heart that made him a beloved stylist, he enjoyed every bit of the 22 years he worked with Delta Airlines and serving the needs of travelers and supporting his co-workers.
First and foremost in his life, David accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at a young age. No matter what situation he found himself in his life, his foundation was his faith. He loved his parents and was intensely proud to be the son of a Church of God preacher. When his mother fell ill a few years after the death of his father, David made the decision to move his mother from East Tennessee to his home in Newnan, a home he purchased with her comfort in mind. He cared for his mother for several years in his home until she passed, making her comfort and quality of life a priority. He dearly loved the last church that held his active membership, Crossroads Church in Newnan, where the staff went above and beyond in being Jesus to David by praying for him, encouraging him, and making numerous acts of service.
David doded on his little sister, Lori, as if she was his own child. They held a close bond that God, no doubt, ordained, a bond that honored their parents' legacy and exemplefied the love of family that is unbreakable. That love easily extended to his nieces and his nephew, who Uncle Day Day loved more than himself.
Respectful of everyone, even those whose beliefs didn't align with his, David was a genuine person who exhibited a love for life that drew people to him. He truly cared for others and had a soft spot for the downtrodden - animals and humans alike. Laughing came easy for David, and he had a joy in his heart that fed his neverending sense of humor, and his gift for lighthearted sarcasm that brought his friends to laughter often.
David was a grateful person, in the good and in the bad. He appreciated the care of his medical teams - and later hospice workers ¬- that many patients take for granted. Forever optimistic, he considered himself blessed beyond measure. Even as his health was declining and he knew he was nearing the end, his only concern was for his sister.
David was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Reverend Edison and Betty Collins; brother William Randle Collins; paternal grandparents, Philip and Bessie Collins; and maternal grandparents, William Raymond and Sarah Alice Jarnigan.
David is survived by his beloved baby sister, Lori (Collins) Fouty; nieces Lilly and Maddie; and nephew Joey.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 10th, 5pm - 7pm at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City, with the service immediately following. Interment will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, March 11th at 11:00 am.
