DR. CLARENCE H. WATSON, age 87, of Knoxville, TN and previously of Jefferson City, TN, passed away September 15, 2008. Emeritus Associate Professor of Religion at Carson Newman College, previously for 8½ years was Director of Off-Campus Education for Christian Service, and then served as a full-time teacher for 25 years. After retirement in 1986, he taught part-time for 2 years. While Off-Campus Director, the record off-campus enrollment one year was 896 pupils plus local administrators. During the off-campus years, he made many friends for Carson Newman College. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Jefferson City for 51 years. Previously in Sunday School, he was Director one year, Departmental Director of two departments for a number of years, and class teacher for 10 years. In addition to the local church membership, he was supply preacher as well as interim pastor of many East Tennessee Baptist churches. Presently, he was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church in Knoxville. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Bessie Watson of Yazoo City, MS. He is survived by Frances, his wife of 60 years; his daughter, Suzanne and husband, Ronnie Wilson of Knoxville; as well as his grandson, Henry Todd Beach and fiancé, Alexandria Brown; his daughter, Melanie Honea and grandchildren, Brandon and Miranda of Ooltewah, near Chattanooga, TN; and his sister, Betty and husband, Jerry Moore of Nashville; along with one niece and three nephews and their families. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2008 at Farrar Funeral Home and proceed immediately to Westview Cemetery for a 1:30 p.m. graveside interment service with Dr. Charles Earl and Carolyn Blevins officiating. Mike Bundon will be singing two of Clarence's favorite songs. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dr. Clarence Watson Scholarship Fund, c/o Carson-Newman College.
