Charles “Charlie” Phillips Mahood Weinberg, age 92, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, at his home in Acworth, Georgia.
Born in Charlotte, NC to parents Grace Elizabeth Mahood Weinberg and Stanley Capers Weinberg, Charlie lived most of his youth in Roanoke, VA. A graduate of Jefferson High School in Roanoke, he served in the Air Force before attending Duke University, graduating in the class of 1958.
Charlie lived in Asheville, North Carolina, East Tennessee (Morristown and Jefferson City) and Metro Atlanta (Mableton, Cartersville, and Acworth) during his career at ENKA and Amoco Fabrics and Fibers, as well as his retirement.
A consummate gentleman who always had a kind word, smile, and wisdom to share, Charlie’s passions included family, faith, gardening, sailing and Duke University basketball.
Charlie is preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Weinberg, and survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Janice McKay Weinberg; brother William (Lois) Weinberg, sister-in-law Barbara Weinberg; children Charles “Jude” Weinberg, Elizabeth (Sidney) Weinberg Sampaio, James (Christy) Kautz, and John (Terry Kobza) Kautz; grandchildren Evan, Connor, Alyssa, and Jackson; great granddaughter Alora; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family will receive friends at Heritage Baptist Church in Cartersville, Georgia on Wednesday, July 31st at 3:00pm, followed by a memorial service at 4:00pm, with the Rev. Dr. Alex Gallimore officiating. Arrangements by Owen Funeral Home in Cartersville, GA.
A graveside service will be held the following day, Thursday, August 1st at 2:00 pm, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Dandridge, Tennessee. Arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge, TN.
