Charles David Goddard, beloved son of Charles Gordon Goddard and Jessica Thomas Goddard, passed away unexpectedly on January 7th, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born in Morristown in 1975. He attended Hamblen County Schools, graduating from Morristown West in 1994. He went on to the University of Tennessee and graduated in 1998 with a BS in geography.

After graduation, he and good friend, Russell Moore, rewarded themselves with a long anticipated summer in Europe. For 60 days they traveled by train and boat to many European countries.

When they returned, David began a career in journalism. He was a sportswriter at the Morristown Citizen Tribune and the Cleveland Banner, and served as an assistant news editor for the Daily Times in Maryville. He then worked at the Knoxville News Sentinel as an online producer. Later, he also wrote an opinion column once a month for the Sunday edition of the Sentinel. From there he transitioned to become media coordinator at the UT College of Engineering. He recently accepted a position to become the Science Writer for Research Marketing and Communications and became a member of the Faculty Senate at the University of Tennessee. He was very excited and honored for this opportunity.

David’s favorite things were his family, friends, and traveling. David would travel abroad multiple times with his family, including several holidays with his wife and children. Two memorable moments include touring Beatles history in Liverpool with his wife, Wayna, and son, Charles and visiting the Redwood Forest in California with his daughter, Jessica. David also loved sports. His favorite teams were the UT Vols, Atlanta Braves, and the Miami Dolphins.

David’s personality was infectious. He had a witty sense of humor and made everyone around him laugh. He also had a huge heart and loved his friends and family deeply.

In 2002, he married Wayna Kyte of Dandridge and they spent over 21 loving years together. In addition to his wife and parents, David is survived by his two children Jessica Elizabeth and Charles Edward, his sister Connie Spicer, brother-in-law Steven Spicer, and mother and father-in-law, Wayne and Margaret Kyte. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to First United Methodist Church of Dandridge or Isaiah 117 House of Jefferson County.  Arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home, Dandridge, TN.

David loved being surrounded by family and friends and would want us to be together and reminisce about all the fun memories we made with him. His family will honor him by asking his friends, family, and co-workers to gather, share pictures and stories, listen to his music, and bring comfort to each other. His Celebration of Life will be held on February 3, 2024, at The Vale, 243 West Main Street, Morristown, TN 37814. Please come by any time between 1:00pm and 3:00 pm.
