Charles "Charlie" Weller

CHARLES “CHARLIE” WELLER claimed the promise of his Baptism Saturday morning on November 30, 2019 at his home in Morristown. He enjoyed a large family Thanksgiving celebration two days before and at age of 94 was still an active part of his community and a vital member of his family. Charlie was a WWII Submarine Veteran, having served aboard the USS Sennet. Born in Philadelphia, PA on June 28, 1925, he is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mayme (Cox) Weller and two sisters, Carrie Weller and Loretta Pfeiffer. After the war he attended business school at Temple University, and he went to work selling cars and later radio and television parts. Retired from management at Zenith Corp (Franklin Park, IL) in 1986 he enjoyed several “second” careers including realtor and contract salesperson for Nomura Jimusho, Inc. Fully retiring only a few years ago he continued to serve his church, Good Shepherd Lutheran, Kiwanis (Terrific Kids Organization), Elks, VFW, plus was an active member and enthusiastic parade participant for the Great Smoky Mountain Submarine Vets. He could be found at the fitness center several times a week. Charlie was blessed with two happy marriages. The first to Joyce Lorraine Poley, who passed away in 2003. Their family included four children, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly; Caryn Weller of Morristown, TN, Charles A. III “Chas” and Ruby Weller of Middleburg, PA, Scott Weller of Peoria, IL, and Carol and Erick Bruno of Aledo, TX; grandchildren, Hadley Bruno, Trever Bruno and Geoff Bruno of Richmond, VA, grandchildren, Margaret and William (Chris) Chappell of Rockmart, GA, their children (great-grandchildren) Elizabeth Jankowski, Colton Chappell, Victoria Chappell, Allison Chappell and Charles A. IV (Charlie) and Ashley of Gainesville, GA, their children (great-grandchildren) Aislynn Weller and Charles A. V. (Chas) Weller. Charlie is survived by his spouse, Betty Lois (Pinkston) Weller. Betty and Charlie married in November of 2004. He enjoyed being CharliePop to her children: Mark and Debbie Williams, Robert Williams, and Deborah Horner, grandchildren, Michelle and Nathan Flaifel, Sean and Lisa Reed, Brett and Jody Williams and Kasey Williams, and great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and John Flaifel, Colby and Bailey Reed, Ansley and Aliza Williams. A celebration of life will take place at The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (2435 W. Andrew Johnson Hwy, Morristown, TN 37814) on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Family will receive friends beginning at 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. An additional service with interment is being planned for January to take place at St. James Lutheran Church in Limerick, PA. One of Charlie’s requests was no flowers at his service except a single bouquet of yellow roses. In lieu of flowers, he preferred donations to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
