CAROLE TUDOR WHITNEY, age 61, died peacefully October 16, 2003 at Chandler House following a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. C. Bruce Whitney, Jr. and granddaughter Ella Faith Hoagland, father Herb Tudor. An innovative and creative teacher, Carole served the Jefferson County School System from 1969 until her retirement in 2002. She taught many beloved students at various grade levels throughout the county. At Rush Strong School she was a leader in the use of technology and helped to introduce the Foxfire program. During summers she opened the minds of youth to art through the Idea program. Her most recent position was countywide coordinator of the Family Resource Center. Always determined to improve, she earned status as a career ladder professional. She held degrees from Limestone College and the University of Tennessee. A person of deep faith, she and husband Bruce were members of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City for over three decades. During that period she served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, choir member, and officer of many committees. Committed to guiding young people, she and Bruce often escorted youth on out-of-town mission trips. Carole was active in charitable and civic groups including being instrumental in producing the annual Junior Miss pageant. Always giving herself to others, even throughout her last days she cared for the residents and staff of her new home at Chandler House in Jefferson City.
Survived by devoted daughters and sons-in-law: Shannon and Chris Hendrix of Ypsilanti, MI, and Laura and Heath Hoagland of Georgetown, KY. Mother Marie Tudor, grandchildren Wesley, Whitney, Beth and Bowman Hendrix; sister Marie Lawson, and Brother Ray ?Boogie? Tudor all of Beaufort, SC; nieces and nephews Reanne, Rand, Katie and Carrie Thacker; Emilie Butler, Melissa, John, Meredith, and Caroline Davis; Todd, Cindy, Aaron, Kris, Hannah, Jacob Lawson; Jason, Melissa, and Ryan Lassiter; Jeremy and Erin Tudor, Jessica and Caroline Maichel, and Elizabeth Tudor.
Memorial service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, October 19, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City with the Rev. Janice Robertson officiating. The family will receive friends 1:00 to 3:00 PM prior to the memorial service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City, the American Cancer Society, Carson-Newman College or Ronald McDonald House.
