Carl August Zander, Sr passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 in Dandridge,TN at the age of 86. He is survived by his daughters Laura Zander Racic, Taryn (Alfred) Herzog, and Dawn (Edwin) Modugno, his sons, Carl (Annette) Zander, Jr, David (Jennifer) Zander, Sr, Gary (Nancy) Zander, his sister Rosemarie Carfaro, brother Arthur Zander, 22 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gertrude (Glasser), parents Esther (Hilbert) and Albert Zander, sisters Anna Sorrentino, Ethel Conger, Hazel Hinds, and brothers Christopher, Irving, and Albert Zander.
Carl was born in Myersville, NJ. He was a proud Marine, serving as a Lance Corporal, and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Morristown, TN, and lifetime member of the Pastime Club in Mendham, NJ.
Carl retired from the Local 825 Operating Engineers in 1992. For the next 15 years, Carl and Gertrude enjoyed traveling in their motor home, and were very proud of the fact that they vacationed and visited in all of the fifty states. Another big enjoyment in their lives was spending time with their grandchildren, and attending their various sporting events and competitions. His love of Gertrude and his family was the light of his life, and he took great pride in his family life and times with all of them.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, at 601 W. Main Street in Morristown, TN on Saturday, April 16, 2016, 12:00 noon, with receiving of friends from 11-12:00 prior to the service, a reception will follow at the church with everyone invited to attend.
