Calvin Floyd Meyer was born September 17, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, while his parents Charles W. Meyer and Annie Sue Bishop Meyer were students at Moody Bible Institute. He is survived by two brothers, Thomas Andrew Meyer and Charles Daniel Meyer (Jan), and one sister Susan Meyer-Booth. He is also survived by his wife of 56 years Shirley Ann Meadows-Meyer whom he met at Carson-Newman College and married on June 4, 1965. They adopted their first child, Larry Calvin Meyer; two additional children were born to them, Christopher Patrick Meyer of Macon, GA, and Janet Renee Meyer-Johnson (Gene) of Holly Hill, FL. Three surviving grandchildren include Kaelan Johnson, Genee’ Johnson and Chelsea Meyer.
Calvin served as teacher, principal, college professor, department chair, and dean of one college during his 48 year career in education. He was also a bi-vocational pastor of nine Southern Baptist Churches and held five degrees from colleges and universities, his highest degree being an Ed.D. earned from the University of South Carolina. He sincerely loved his wife and family and sacrificed for them all his life.
Most importantly, Calvin was saved by the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of eight under the witness of his mother. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Morristown, TN, and his pastor, Dr. Dean Haun, will lead in the evangelical funeral service.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022, and the funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m., both at First Baptist Church Morristown, TN. A graveside service will follow at Westview Cemetery in Jefferson City, TN. Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City, TN, is in charge of arrangements.
