BOBBY DEAN "BOB" BYRD, age 67 of Jefferson City, TN passed away at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, Decembe 4, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville after a brief illness. He was an active member of Buffalo Baptist Church and was a retired foreman from Magnavox after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Marines (Marine 1st Division), having served in the Korean Conflict, where he was the recipient of the Purple Heart Award. Mr. Byrd was a Jefferson County Commissioner for more than 16 years and also served as a member of the Jefferson City Planning Commission. He was inducted into the Jefferson City Recreation Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Lela Byrd. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Glenda Lawson Byrd of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Regina Byrd of Jefferson City and Scott and Carla Byrd of Dandridge; grandson, Brandon Byrd and granddaughter, Kendra Byrd, both of Jefferson City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Jean Byrd of Rutledge, Dan and Audrey(Polly) Byrd of New Market, and Jackie and Patricia Byrd of Russellville; father and mother-in-law, Reverend Luther and Mary Lawson of Greenville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Reverend Rodney and Nedra Lawson of Virginia, Melford and Charlene Lawson of Kodak, and Donnie Lawson of Dandridge, Vera and Tommy Moore of Knoxville and Teresa Lawson of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; and a special thanks to all of the extended family that has been a part of Bob's life. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening, Dec. 6, 2001 from the West Chapel of Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City with Rev. David Collins and Rev. Mark Elkins officiating. Family and friends will meet at 12:15 p.m. Friday afternoone, Dec. 7, 2001 at the funeral home and proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 1 p.m. graveside interment service conducted by the United States Marine Corp Honor Guard Delta Company 4th CBT Engineer Battalion. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon and immediately following the funeral service Thursday evening. In lieu of flowrs, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Kingswood School or to the Korean Memorial Fund, Nashville, TN.
