He was of the Baptist faith. He was a long time employee of Jeffrey Chain Corporation of Morristown, TN. Preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Frances Bateman and sister, Dorothy Phillips. Survived by sister, Sharon Bateman of Leesburg, FL; half-brothers, Terry Bateman of Knoxville and David Bateman of Knoxville; half-sister, Susan McGhee and husband, Steve of Knoxville; nieces and nephews, Del Phillips, Tanya Anderson, Ryan Bateman and Kristen Bateman. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at Farrar Jefferson Chapel. Private graveside services will be Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at Roseberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the American Heart Association.
