Betty Davidson, age 89, of Jefferson City, TN passed away Monday, January 15, 2018. She was born in Cumberland Gap, TN and graduated from Carson-Newman College in 1949. She was a high school English teacher for approximately 30 years having retired from Jefferson County High School. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Henry Davidson after 59 years of marriage. She was a devoted pastor's wife who was active in each of the six churches he served and shared her musical talent as church pianist in all six churches For many years she taught youth Sunday school classes and Vacation Bible School and in later years was one of the teachers of the Agape Class at First Baptist Church, Jefferson City. After retirement she volunteered at Jefferson Elementary to assist children with reading and was a volunteer at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. In addition to the Agape Class she was active in the Women's Ministry Group and the Henrietta Jenkins Bible Study Group. She was also preceded in death by brothers Jack Long, Robert Long and sister Edith Dalzell. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her daughter, Susan Stone of Wakefield, VA; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Karen Davidson of Monroe, GA; grandchildren, Emily and William Dukes of Hull, GA and Matt and Kathy Davidson and great-grandson, Judah, of Waco, TX; sister, Billie Lou Smith of Ewing, VA; sister-in-law Catherine Mangold of Mooresville, IN and several nephews.
The family will receive friends at Farrar Funeral Home, Jefferson City, TN on Friday, January 19 from 6:00-7:30 with the funeral on Saturday, January 20 at 11:00, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Ellen Di Giosia officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to First Baptist Church, 1610 Russell Ave. Jefferson City, TN 37760.
