BETTY SUE DAWSON BALES, age 87, of Talbott, TN passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Jefferson Park in Dandridge, TN after a lingering illness. She was born in Jefferson County on April 1, 1936 to the late Roy Dawson and Ruby Hughes Dawson. She grew up in a loving home with four wonderful sisters. She graduated from Maury High School in 1954 and then married the love of her life in 1957. She worked at American Enka for seventeen years and then went on to retire from the Jefferson County School System. She was a member of Talbott Baptist Church and loved the Lord. She was a fun loving person who was always up for anything. She loved to laugh and joke and never met a stranger. She loved the outdoors and listening to music. She loved antique cars, motorcycles and racing, and loved going to all the shows. She loved to travel and see things, especially from the backseat of her husband’s motorcycle. She was a person of many talents and was loved by many. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, teacher and friend. She will definitely be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pat Bettis; and her husband of 60 years, Bud Bales. She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Beth Bales; sisters, Joann Bruce, Ella Dean Shively and Barbara Glenn; several nieces and nephews and the many children she helped raise. The family would also like to give a thank you to special friends Shelby Watkins and Berl Dean Hicks. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2023 at Farrar Funeral Home.
