Bernard O. Hopkins

Bernard O’dell Hopkins, age 92 of Talbott, TN passed away peacefully at his home (where he lived since age four) surrounded by family on Monday, January 20, 2020. He was saved in 1975 at the age of 48 and was a faithful daily reader of his Bible. He was known for his generosity and kindness to anyone in need. He was a retired farmer and had also retired from Wolfe Tree Trimming Services years ago. He was known for his quick wit, telling stories of years gone by, and for his whittling and carving abilities. He is preceded in death by his parents W.M. “Bill” and Pearl (Knowling) Hopkins, his siblings, Bobbie Hopkins, Marshall “Doc” Hopkins, and Virginia Greene, his brother in law and sister in law, Howard Hill and Louise (Knight) Hopkins, nephew, David Hopkins, and second great nephew, Izaliz Hopkins, and girlfriend of 17 years, Mae Welch. He is survived by his siblings and their spouses, J.T. (Helen) Hopkins, Ethel Hill, Sarah (Escoe) Smith, Coy Hopkins, Fred (Margaret) Hopkins, and Doulas Hopkins , all of Talbott, brother in law and sister in law, Horace Greene and Betty Hopkins, both of Talbott. He was the beloved uncle of 21, great uncle to 34, and 2nd great uncle to 23. He also leaves behind his close friend, Faye Welch of Jefferson City. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Sartain Springs Missionary Baptist Church from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. On Thursday, January 23, 2020 the family will meet at the Hopkins homeplace at 12:00 p.m. At 12:30 p.m. the family will then proceed behind his body as it is transported by a wagon and John Deere tractor to Sartain Springs Church. The tractor will be driven by his nephew, Stephen Hopkins. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with his nephew, Rev. Philip Hopkins and his brother in law, Rev. Horace Greene officiating. Graveside service will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family wishes to thank Smokey Mountain Home Health and Hospice for their skilled and loving care which enabled him to live out his remaining last few days in the comfort of his own home.
