 Barbara A. (Messier) Wood (1942–2023)

Barbara Wood, 81, of Dandridge, TN, passed away in Jefferson City, TN, on November 16, 2023, following a brief illness.

She was born in Fall River, MA, in 1942 to Aime and Emily (Galvo) Messier and lived most of her life in Westport, MA.  Barbara attended Westport High School and worked for the town of Westport and the Southeastern Massachusetts Visiting Nurse Agency.  She was a Master Gardener, an accomplished quilter, a talented knitter and painter, as well as a dedicated community member.   Barbara was a supporter of organizations that benefited the betterment of the lives of children and animals.  She attended the Grace Baptist Church in Dandridge.  She was a member of the French Broad Quilters, New Market Family Communities Education Quilters, Smokey Mountain Iris Club, Tennessee Extension Master Gardeners, Martha Dandridge Garden Club, and the 4H Quilters.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn A. Wood, and is survived by her sister, Charlotte Murphy, of Dartmouth, MA, Cynthia McMahon (daughter) of West Springfield, MA, Thomas R. Porter (son) of Dandridge, TN, Carolyn Wilkins (daughter) of Jasper, GA, and Todd Porter (son) of Brunswick, GA. She also had five grandchildren: Zachary Wilkins, Amber Caldwell, Alex Drinnen, Timothy McMahon, and Samantha Porter.  In addition, she had four great-grandchildren, Jackson, William, Adalynn Drinnen, and Maddison Caldwell.

A private ceremony for the family will be held soon.  Instead of flowers, please donate in her name to your local animal rescue.
