BARBARA CANNON WEATHERLY MCWATERS, a noted Savannah artist, died early on December 31, 2009. She was a resident at Pigeon Forge Care and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly from Savannah, GA and Dandridge, TN. Mrs. Weatherly was born Barbara Cannon on March 27, 1927 in Savannah, the daughter of the former John Respess Cannon and Irma Wilson Cannon, both of Savannah. She was married to architect William Earl Weatherly in 1950 until his death in 1990. They had two children, William Craig Weatherly (a.k.a. Michael Craig), currently of Atlanta, and Page Weatherly Dawson, currently of Newport, TN. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Christopher Thompson of Dandridge, and Patrick Thompson, currently in the Navy and stationed in Hawaii. Mrs. Weatherly married Roy McWaters in 1993, and they lived in Dandridge until his death in 2002. In the late 1940?s, Barbara studied fine art at the Atlanta School of Art, and became a premier artist in Savannah during the 1960?s and 70?s. She was a founding member of Gallery 209 on River Street in Savannah, and had several of her ?hard edge? pieces on display throughout the world. Mrs. Weatherly also painted portraits of many Savannah residents until the early 1990?s and was listed in Who?s Who of American Artists. A memorial service will be held at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge, TN at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010, followed by immediate interment at nearby Hillcrest Cemetery.
