Barbara Scarlett Byrd,age 56 of Dandridge, passed away on Thursday evening, September 19, 2002 following a battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Chester and Bernice Williams Scarlett and was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery Dale Byrd. She was a member of the Deep Springs Baptist Church where she, along with her sisters, Goldia Chapman, Mary Phillps and special friend, Betty French enjoyed singing and were known around the area as "The Scarlett Sisters." She was a retired employee of the Jefferson County School Cafeteria System following 20 plus years of service. She is survived by her husband, Joe Byrd; daughter, Alisa Byrd, both of Dandridge; son and daughter-in-law, David and Renae Byrd of Jefferson City; grandchildren, Olivia and Nolan Byrd; sisters and brothers-in-lw, Goldia and Jimmy Chapman, Mary and Jerry Phillips; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 8:00 p.m. at Deep Springs Baptist Church in Dandridge. Interment graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2002 at Deep Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Deep Springs Cemetery Fund, c/o Jewell Price, 408 McGuire Road, Jefferson City, TN 37760.
