AVA VIVIAN BROOKS BAILEY, age 86, of Strawberry Plains, TN went to be with the Lord on March 26, 2014. She was a member for many years of First Baptist Church of Strawberry Plains. She was employed for twenty years with the Thompson Cancer Center. She was also a member of the Rebeka’s Lodge of Thorne Grove. She served as the State President of the Rebeka’s Lodge in 1973. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Boyce F. Bailey; parents, Robert Heiskell Brooks and Elsie Mae Brooks Colyer; step-father, William Colyer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Amos F. Bailey and Ola “Mom” Bailey Newman; sisters, Roberta Cook and Anice Ogle; brothers-in-law, Roy Cook and Herbert Harrell; and nephew, David “Bud” Cook. Surviving relatives include her son, Gary Bailey and wife, Kathy of Highland, Michigan; daughter, Karen Bailey Grigsby and husband, Steve of Kingston, TN; four grandchildren, Kari Grigsby Townsend and husband, Lynn of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Keena Grigsby Inman and husband Johnny of Crossville, TN, Timothy Bailey and Lisa Bailey of Michigan; five great-grandchildren, Collin Townsend, Landon Townsend, Sydney Townsend, Alexie Inman and Jackson Inman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jewell Hux and husband Bob of Strawberry Plains, TN, Carolyn “Corky” Brooks of Knoxville, TN, Marvin Ogle of Greenville, TN; sister-in-law, Hazel Harrell of Knoxville, TN; brother-in-law, Austin Newman and wife, Elizabeth of Myrtle Beach, SC; and many special nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Strawberry Plains, TN with Rev. Sam Grindstaff, pastor of First Baptist Church of Strawberry Plains, and Brock Webster of Knoxville officiating. Receiving of friends will be from 12:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the church prior to the funeral service. Graveside interment service will immediately following the service at East View Cemetery. Pallbearers include Lynn Townsend, Collin Townsend, Landon Townsend, Johnny Inman, Jackson Inman, Timothy Bailey, Austin Newman. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Hux, Marvin Ogle, Chris Ogle, Craig Ogle, Alan Duncan, Charlie Dalton, Larry Burcham, Bob Berry, David Lockhart, Chip Manor, Mike Dutton ad Mack Cole.
