Anna Joyce Northern

Anna Joyce Northern went to be with her Lord on December 12th, 2023. She was born to Martin and Adelaide Burgin of White Pine, TN, Oct. 20, 1929. She joined her husband of 63 years, Thomas E. Northern, Sr., who passed September 8, 2017, and her brothers E. J. (Barbara), Gordon (Kaye), and John Burgin (Emily). She is survived by Thomas E. Northern, Jr. of the home. She also leaves her loving grandchildren: Aimee Yanex of Suffolk, VA, Carlton Northern (Callie) of El Cajon, CA, Matthew Marson (Kim) of Murfreesboro, TN, and Melissa Vallone (A.J.) of Chesapeake, VA; five great-grandchildren. Anna Joyce received her B.S. from Carson-Newman College graduating cum laude and was an educator for 42 years, including Morristown School of Business and Hiwassee Jr. College, schools in Tennessee, Louisiana, Florida, and Japan. She was Jefferson Co. High School teacher of the year in 1988-1989. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years in the youth and children's departments of her various churches. She loved singing in choirs and in her later years, was a librarian at Manley Baptist Church, Morristown, TN, where she was a member since 1971. She volunteered for three years at Jefferson Rural Clinic and was a member of Jefferson County Retired Assoc. For many years, she was a talented seamstress. In her later years she enjoyed reading. The family will receive friends at Manley Baptist Church, Morristown, TN on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service held at 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund of Manley Baptist Church, 3603 West Andrew Johnson Highway, Morristown, TN 37814.
