Alva Day, age 84, of Talbott, TN, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Born September 19, 1939, in Middlesboro, KY, Alva Day was the third of four children of the late Noal and Georgia Leona (Hendrickson) Day. A Master Barber for over 60 years, Alva owned and operated Crescent Center Barber Shop for nearly 50 years, then relocated to Day’s Barber Shop in Talbott, TN, where he continued to barber until his death.

Alva was an active member of Talbott Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. 

Alva actively served others through several organizations including 44 years in the Gideons; a 55 year member of Morristown Lodge #231 and 32^nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was also a member of Kerbela Shrine, transporting children to hospitals in Lexington, KY, Cincinnati, OH and Greenville, SC, and delighted in bringing the Shriner’s Elmo Train to churches to give children rides.

Alva served in the Army Reserves and the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969 and was honored for his service with a Quilt of Valor at a recent Veteran’s Day Ceremony. 

He was preceded in death by wife, Isabelle Rowlett Day; sister Emma Loraine Day Gent of Hamilton, OH; and brother Ules Day of Middlesboro, KY. 

Alva is survived by beloved children, Cynthia Loraine (Scott) Spitler of Maryville; Christina Isabelle (Tony) Patterson, and Craig Alva (Crystal) Day of Jefferson City; grandchildren: Mary Elizabeth, Michael Day and Charles Alva Scott Spitler, Christina Elise (Blake) Wing,  and Georgia Katharine and Asher Craig Day, and Kendall Lauren and Jonah James Thomas; brother Kenneth (Linda) Day of Tazewell, TN; brothers-in-law, Don ( Mary Rose) Gent of Hamilton, OH, and Wayne (Claudia) Rowlett of Gray, KY; and dozens of devoted nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 7pm Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Talbott Baptist Church, Rev. Wade McCullough officiating. 

Family will receive friends from 4-7pm prior to the service. Family and friends will gather at 10am Wednesday morning at Farrar Funeral Home to proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11am graveside interment service. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Alva never met a stranger and never forgot a name. He was always up for a road trip, welcomed everyone with a handshake or hug, and enjoyed nothing more than telling stories and making people laugh.
