ALTA RUTH WHITAKER, age 92, of Jefferson City, TN passed away on July 12, 2024. She loved cooking and gardening, and working in her church with the children. She attended both Buffalo Grove Baptist Church and Central Heights Baptist Church where she was a pre-school Sunday School teacher for over 60 years. She also loved music and singing in the choir at her churches. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles Whitaker, who she was married to for more than 60 years; her parents, Henry and Minnie May; and she was the last surviving child of six of that family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and David Jordan; grandson, David Jordan III and wife Mary; great-grandson, David Jordan IV; granddaughter, Chelsea Jordan; grandson, Nate Jordan; sister-in-law, Jessie Skeen; and several loving nieces and nephews. The family offers a special thanks to Signature Assisted Living for their loving and special care. Also to Amedisys Home Health and Hospice for their wonderful care. Family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Service will follow at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Corey Jones and Rev. Chad Chambers officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 a.m. on Monday morning at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the children’s programs at either Central Heights Baptist Church, 108 E Price Road, Dandridge, TN 37725, or to Buffalo Grove Baptist Church, 1137 Buffalo Road, Jefferson City, TN 37760.
