ALMA RUTH BALES LAWSON, age 79, of Jefferson City, TN passed away at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009 at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City for over 50 years. She was the office LPN for Dr. Donald Thompson of Morristown. Preceded in death by her parents, Floyd E. Bales, Sr. and Bertha Thornton Bales; brothers, Floyd E. Bales, Jr. and Bruce J. Bales. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Russell C. Lawson; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Vicki Lawson, Gene and Heather Lawson; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Charles Hawkins, all of Jefferson City; grandchildren, Gary R. Lawson II of New York, Paul R. Lawson of Knoxville, TN, gary and Wendi Brown, Chris and Monika Baker, and Paula Gregg; great-grandchildren, Emilie and Garron Brown, all of Jefferson City; many loving cousins, nieces and nephews; special camping friends of Elkmont; special family Russell's siblings, Samuel T. and Helga Thornton of Ohio, Tom and Sharon Ricks of New Hampshire, David and Beverly Douglas of Knoxville, John Bales and Jean Hellwege and their daughters, Hope and Anna, all of Virginia. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2009 from the Farrar Jefferson City Chapel with Reverend Doug Wilder officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, April 28, 2009 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 2011 Branner Avenue, Jefferson City, TN 37760, or to a church organization of your choice. The family would liek to give a special thanks to Dr. Richard Antonucci and his staff, as well as Morristown Hamblen Hospice for all the care given to Alma in her sickness.
