OBITUARY:
ALICE JO FRANKLIN MITCHELL, age 68, of Dandridge, TN passed away suddenly Wednesday, May 9, 2007. She was a member of the Dandridge First United Methodist Church, where she served as nursery attendant and was a member of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee. She was a graduate of Carson Newman College and did advanced studies at the University of Tennessee. Active in the Dandridge community, she was past president of the Dandridge Lions Club and was on numerous committees. She was a teacher with the Dandridge area after school tutoring program, served on the board of directors of Safe Space of Jefferson and Sevier counties. Alice Jo was a counselor in the legal field for 44 years and was the first certified legal assistant in Tennessee. She worked in federal court with Judge Robert Taylor and Magistrate Thomas Phillips and also worked for Colonel Charles Lockett for 26 years. Preceded in death by her husband, Bill Mitchell and father, Hood Franklin. She is survived by her mother, Lucy Corbett Franklin; sister, Doris Lynn Collins; brother, Nathan Franklin; sister-in-law, Alice (Sudie) Mitchell; several nieces and nephews; many cousins; and special friends, Celeste Reneau and Janie Corbett Thomas. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2007 at the Dandridge First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry DeVault and Dr. Robert McCray officiating. Interment will follow the service at Hebron Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
