MYERS, age 90, of Jefferson City, Tennessee, died peacefully Thursday morning, August 17, 2006. A true son of Tennessee, Dr. Myers was born in Rogersville, TN and grew up in Nashville and Jefferson City. Educated at Carson-Newman College and Purdue University, he worked during the war years in Pennsylvania and Ohio before returning to Tennessee to become one of the early residents of Oak Ridge. His life was spent in service to students as he taught chemistry in several colleges in the south, including Ouachita, Furman, Houston Baptist, and, most significantly, Carson Newman, where he spent the majority of a 34 year career. Dr. Myers, a committed Christian, was a long-time and active member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City. He is survived by Katherine, his wife of 65 years; three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Mary Myers of Durham, NC, Bill and Barbara Myers of Richmond, VA, and Jim and Terri Myers of Knoxville; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; in addition to three sisters, Mary Lambert of Lewisburg, Louise Harris of Orangeburg, SC, and Nancy Thompson of Harriman. His legacy remains in the lives of the family he guided and influenced, the students he taught and inspired, and the friends and neighbors he loved and served. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at the Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City with Dr. Gene Wilder and Reverend Jim Dampier officiating. Burial will follow the service at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Albert L.
