WYLIE HAMMOND, age 68, of Dandridge, TN completed his life journey on Saturday, April 18, 2015. Wylie George Hammond was born May 15, 1946, a son of Elliott and Helen (Benner) Hammond, in Lincoln, NE. He graduated from Bloomington High School, received a Bachelor’s Degree from Mankato State University and his Master’s Degree from University of the Americas in Pueblo, Mexico. Wylie served in the U. S. Army from 1969 in 1971. He married Marilynn Klein in 1972. Together they had three children, Alexandra, Alyssia and Lucas. In 1986, Wylie married Kathy Olson, and they had a son, Chad. Wylie’s career in Student Services in Higher Education included Mayville State College in Mayville, ND, Cochise College in Douglas, AZ, and Minot State University in Minot, ND. His joy and passion was working with Native American students, especially at Minot State University. Wylie and Kathy retired in Dandridge, TN the summer of 2014, where Kathy accepted a position as interim pastor at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church. They were enjoying their new home, new friends, and new church very much. Family and friends were coming to visit and life was good. Wylie will be greatly missed. His loving family includes his wife, Kathy; daughter, Alexandra (Andrew) Norris; daughter, Alyssia (Chris) Cursi; son, Lucas Hammond; son, Chad (Brooke) Hammond; granddaughters, Josie Hammond, Willow Cursi, Lola Norris; brother, Elliott (Ann) Hammond; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Olson; sister-in-law, Bonnie O’Keefe; brother-in-law, Timothy O’Keefe; nieces, Kelsie (Mike) Miller and Maggie O’Keefe; great-grand-niece, Cecilia Miller; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Elliott Hammond; mother, Helen (Benner) Hammond; mother-in-law, Elsie Olson; and father-in-law, Julian Olson. A Celebration of Life will be held for Wylie at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dandridge on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials to go to the Minot State University Native American Scholarship Fund, 500 University Avenue West, Minot, ND 58707, The United Methodist Spirit Lake Ministry Center, 3365 81st Avenue NE, Sheyenne, ND 58374, or the Hopewell Presbyterian Church Choir Fund, PO Box 215, Dandridge, TN 37725.
